These days are few

 These days are few—

When we stand in the queue,

And suddenly step out of the blue,

With a clue.

These days are few—

When you catch a glimpse of you,

Beyond the view of the mirror.

Days when you don’t just look, but see.

You see beyond the sea—

Of distractions drowning your attention.

Days when you find yourself

Face to face,

Gaze to gaze,

With guilt and bloodshot eyes—

Watching your purpose

Crave…

Then starve,

To its grave,

For want of attention.

These days are few.

These days are few—

When you remember the things you’ve been through,

And the course that has carried you through.

It’s true—

You’ve eaten rice without stew,

Sailed your ship with no crew,

Planted seeds without dew,

And built with the stones life threw at you.

But these days are few—

When you declare an internal curfew,

Invite yourself down Reality Avenue,

Conduct a sincere interview,

And wipe clean your distracted windshield
And foggy point of view.

I have not come this far

To let nonchalance take over me.

I rebuke my need for premature pleasure.

These rare days—
I will capture,

I will treasure.

I won’t let them slip away,

While my attention sleeps away.

I stay awake.

I stay self-conscious.

For these days are few—

When we stand in the queue,

And suddenly step out of the blue

With a clue.

And these days are few—

When you finally decide
to build

With the bricks
life threw at you.
